The 24-year-old singer-songwriter from Seattle is nominated for Song of the Year alongside rap duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for their song collaboration, Same Love.
It's been quite a year for the vibrant redhead, who told Jack Osbourne on the Grammy red carpet that she was a bartender just one year ago.
Spilling secrets: During an interview with Jack Osbourne on the Grammy red carpet, Mary Lambert said she was a bartender just a year ago, and now she's nominated
'@marylambertsing told me she was bar tending just one year ago. Now she's nominated @TheGRAMMYs! #fuseGRAMMYs,' Osbourne tweeted during his red carpet assignment for Fuse TV.
For her first Grammys, Mary wore a short black, taffeta strapless dress with gold embossing on the bodice and black-and-gold pumps.
Her dress showed off the colorful tattoo sleeve on her left arm.
She wore her red hair down and wavy and minimal makeup except for a bright red lipstick.
How far she's come: Mary was handpicked by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis to provide the hook for Same Love
There was a bit of kismet involved in Mary joining forces with the now-red-hot rap duo.
The pair wrote Same Love but wanted to add a hook and so they reached out to fellow Seattle artist Mary.
Lambert told the Associated Press that she had 'about two or three hours' to write the song’s chorus and record it in front of the breakthrough stars.
'They loved it,' she said. 'It was like this beautiful minute of silence after I had sung the chorus.'
Bright future: The singer has turned her part of Same Love into a single called She Keeps Me Warm
The song, about gay love and acceptance has special meaning for Mary, who is openly gay.
According to the New York Times, 34 gay, straight and interracial couples, including Ryan's sister and her boyfriend, will exchange vows during the Grammy performance of 'Same Love.'
Queen Latifah will officate the marriages and Madonna will join the the performance at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Special guest: Jennifer Hudson joined Macklemore, Ryan and Mary during their performance on the MTV Video Music Awards in August in Brooklyn
Lambert signed to Capitol Records and will release a full-length album this year, according to AP.
She plans to sing about topics from female empowerment, fat shaming and domestic violence.
She also released a book of poetry, called 500 Tips for Fat Girls, in January 2013.
