It sounds like the dictionary definition of "innocent fun": Film yourself dancing to Pharrell Williams's "Happy" then upload the video to YouTube for the world to see. But for a group of young Iranians living in Tehran, things took a dark turn after local police heard about their tribute video and promptly detained all those involved.
The arrests prompted online outrage, with the hashtag #FreeHappyIranians trending on Twitter. At least five of the dancers have since been freed, but the video's director remains in custody.
Pharrell himself described the arrests as "beyond sad."
