Thailand remains calm while other countries express concern over military coup


In Thailand, a day after declaring a military coup, General Chan-ocha and other high ranking generals met with junior personnel to explain why they took over the country. A few hundred people gathered to demonstrated peacefully in Bangkok with minimal military intervention.
Thailand's neighboring countries, including China and India, reacted to events in Thailand with concern and called for restraint. The US said there is no justification for the military coup.
A Chinese court has handed down the death sentence to a billionaire businessman Liu Han. Liu was found guilty of running a "mafia-style" network that extorted billions from people in Sichuan province. Another 35 gang members, including Liu's brother were also convicted.
