My fellow Australians will
be sure to remember Gumnutz, the
telemovie about a community of animals sharing the only plot of fertile land
that survived a bush fire. It had a surprising amount of depth for a children’s
movie, demonstrating the positive aspects of human beings living in close
proximity to one another. It showed the loyalty that this engenders, but also
the jealousy, greed, and lust for power. Due to its popularity, the people
behind this animated adventure are looking to mould it into a unique Aussie brand,
beginning with a picture book aimed at 5-9-year-olds.
The book will be self-published in order to allow the
author to retain full control over it, and will feature 60 pages of fun and
excitement involving engaging characters, each with their own multifaceted
personalities. It is being funded via the crowdfunding platform Pozible, and
those who donate can expect one or more of a series of rewards, ranging from a
copy of the book to DVD movies. Gumnutz hopes to show young readers the
importance of problem solving and leadership, through the courage of the
story’s small group of young heroes. This distinctly Aussie tale teaches them
that through adversity, diverse characters can band together for the common
good. The aim is to have the book on
the market by April 2016. Check it out for yourself at http://www.pozible.com/project/195116
