THE INCOMPARABLE AND DEDICATED WORK
OF STEADICAM OPERATOR ERIC CATELAN
Some people
stay busy just to stay busy and they have nothing else to do – nothing creative
that is. And other people stay busy because they have found something in life
that they are truly passionate about. Eric Catelan, for instance, the French
camera operator and Steadicam operator extraordinaire, is passionate about what
he does and that’s why he is always – always very busy. Besides operating
cameras on movie sets and filming locations, he also is one of the best
Steadicam operators in the business. And let’s not stop there. He is also a
Steadicam instructor at Steadicam workshops held around the world.
Eric Catelan
teaches Steadicam classes and workshops alongside Garrett Brown, who invented the
Steadicam back in the 1970s. Mr. Brown, by the way, was also the Steadicam
operator for movies such as Rocky, The
Shining, Star Wars and Casino, to
mention just a few.
Capturing
beautiful images on film or digitally is an art form and very technical craft,
and Eric Catelan has established himself among the highest ranks of Steadicam
operators. Catelan’s resumé is so long
and illustrious that even though we can’t tell you everything he’s done, some
of the many films Catelan has contributed to include: The Da Vinci Code, One Wild Moment, Mesrine: Parts 1 & 2, 99F,
Anthony Zimmer, Yamakasi, Le Mac. Narco, Samourai, The Statement, My Wife Is An
Actress, Red Siren, Coco & Igor, Darshan, 8, Blueberry and The World Is Yours, among odzens of
others.
