“Have brush – Will travel.” That should be the motto of Katia Garcia, the Spanish/French makeup artist who is ready and willing to go to the ends of the earth to do a photo-shoot. No one should be surprised at that because Katia has always been attracted to fashion and makeup since she was a young girl. She grew up in Southern France with her eyes and mind glued to magazines such as Glamour, Elle and Vogue, because as we all know by now, those periodicals contain state of the art fashions along with the best looking models replete with the most perfect makeup. She has also been influenced by the creative and colorful geniuses Lady Gaga and Rihanna in their music videos.

And that’s where Katia comes in. Even though models are, by default, exquisitely dazzling, the camera seems to look for and find any flaw or hot spot that may appear on the un-made up face. A good makeup person can easily cover those up and enable the camera to flatter the model even more than usual. However, a great makeup artist, such as Katia, can come in and magnify the charming allure of the model many times over simply by using her brush and magically and subtly reinforcing the beauty that is already there.

Katia was born in Spain and raised in France. She studied languages and international business at the university in Aix-en-Provence and after receiving a Bachelor’s degree and a year of working she decided to seriously pursue a career in makeup. So, she came to California and attended the legendary school for makeup artists, Make-up Designory (MUD) in Burbank. They teach the intricacies of professional make-up artistry for film, Television, Fashion, Theatre and Retail. Katia has been working steadily ever since she completed her courses there.

When she was asked what her favorite project has been so far, she said that she has loved every one that she has worked on. Every photo shoot is different and she gets to create something new each time she works.  She did tell us, however, that one of her favorite experiences was when she collaborated with the very talented makeup artist Maud Chalard in Los Angeles. It was for the brand IRO Paris and Katia feels that it was one of the best makeups she has ever done and that she is still very proud of it.
