If you are
going to do something – do it right and if you really want to excel at something – then you had better start thinking outside the
box. The Italian film director and cinematographer Alberto Accettulli’s motto
is just that: “Think outside the box,” and by doing so, he has achieved almost
a new language of story telling in action sports videos. He doesn’t shoot
things so the audience can simply be passive observers – his goal is to grab
you and pull you into the swirling vortex of the action that his camera is
capturing. He forces you to be one with the action and it is incredibly
exhilarating.
All this comes
from his background as a professional mountain bike competitor. When he was
growing up in the beautiful city of Genoa, Italy, he found plenty of winding
narrow streets and classic architecture that allowed him to become Italy’s top
freestyle bike rider. When he decided that he needed a sponsor to underwrite
his competition and travel expenses he began to film himself in action during
the day and edit the raw stock at night. He sent his finished films off to a
number of potential sponsors and Nike liked his performances so much that they
ultimately invited him on their team. Long story short: after a couple of years
as a professional Alberto saw that he was clearly more interested in filmmaking
than being an active biker so he started working as a professional action
sports filmmaker for Nile, Red Bull, Corona Beer, Fiat and Eastpak, among others.
He founded his own
production company Docks Video and has produced countless web and TV videos for
brands such as Honda, Toyota, Ducati, Chevrolet, Visa, Jeep, Giorgio Armani,
Nike, Red Bull, Kawasaki, Nestlè, Fiat, Rolex, Yamaha, Alfa Romeo, Carrera, and
many others.
Alberto graduated from the
Art Institute in Genoa and received his Master of Art degree in Cinematography
from SDAC - Scuola d’Arte Cinematografica, also in Genoa. He was the winner of
the 34th America’s Cup International Film Competition and he has shot and made
films, documentaries and commercials all over Europe, Asia and the United
States. Alberto currently resides in Los Angeles, California, where he can be
close to the action, so to speak. The action being the center of the world’s
film and entertainment industry. Alberto is a man who is always on the move these
days and he is always looking for new ways to push the envelope and new ways to
show action in all forms possible.
